Pharmacogenetics in Drug Development:
Drug Metabolizing Enzymes and Transporters
This half-day short course will offer an introduction to Pharmacogenetics and its application to drug development in the Pharmaceutical industry. The course will be divided into 4 lectures, each approximately 1 hour in length. The course will cover basic Pharmacogenetic concepts, including positional cloning and polymorphisms in drug metabolizing enzymes and transporters. The course will highlight classic examples that demonstrate the effects of genetic polymorphisms on drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. A list of problems sets and answers will also be included.
This course will be held February 8, 2008 immediately after the Pharmacokinetics for Pharmaceutical Scientists short course. The registration fee for this half-day course (which includes the syllabus, lunch and coffee break) is $600 if received before January 11, 2008. Registration after January 11, 2008 is $650.00. Enrollment is strictly limited. No on-site registration is available.

2nd Annual
Introduction to Population Pharmacokinetics
Population Pharmacokinetics is the study of sources of variability in drug disposition and effects. It is an area of strong interest in pharmaceutical research and has reached the point where it is standard practice in drug development. The approach is commonly used in comprehensive PK/PD modeling, and is essential if the models are to be used for subsequent simulations of future trials. Taught by UCSF-BPS faculty from the Center for Drug Development (CDDS), this session will introduce participants to the concepts and important applications of population PK, provide participants with an understanding of the components of population PK, allow simple calculations that reinforce concepts, and introduce participants to NONMEM® (Globomax®), a widely used program for population PK. Due to time constraints, the later aspect will be strictly didactic and NOT hands-on.
*Please note there is a separate registration fee for this half-day short course.
Because of scheduling restrictions, it is not possible to register for both of the Special Session short courses. |
